Course Description

Overview

The MPharm in Pharmacy at King's College London is a four-year, fully accredited degree that integrates pharmaceutical science with the practical skills needed to work as a registered pharmacist. Delivered in line with General Pharmaceutical Council standards, the course combines academic study with a substantial and increasing amount of clinical placement and simulation. The subject matters because pharmacists play a central role in modern healthcare, and this qualification is the only UK route to professional registration in the field.

What You'll Learn

  • The biochemical basis of therapeutics and how drugs act within the body

  • The chemistry of drugs and the science underlying medicines

  • Principles of clinical care and patient-centred practice

  • Body systems and their related diseases, including the nervous, cardiovascular, renal, respiratory, and musculoskeletal systems

  • The formulation, discovery, and development of medicines

  • Infection and pharmaceutical microbiology

  • Clinical decision-making, prescribing principles, and relevant legislation and ethics

  • Core professional competencies developed across all four years of the course

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply pharmaceutical science, pharmacology, and clinical therapeutics to support the safe and effective use of medicines. They will be equipped to make sound clinical decisions, apply relevant legislation and ethical reasoning to prescribing, and communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams. Through extensive placements and simulated practice, students will develop practical, prescribing-ready skills for real clinical settings. These combined scientific and clinical competencies prepare graduates for professional registration and practice as pharmacists across hospital, community, and primary care settings.
