Course Description

Overview

Designing human-centred physical products, crafting intuitive digital user experiences (UX/UI), and utilizing cutting-edge manufacturing technologies are essential for modern industrial innovation and interactive design. Associated with Griffith University, this foundation pathway equips students with essential creative technical knowledge, design thinking principles, and academic competencies. By integrating foundational design theory, digital modeling concepts, and quantitative data analysis, the curriculum prepares learners to analyze user needs and transition seamlessly into undergraduate studies in design with a major in product and user experience design.

What You'll Learn

Core creative design concepts, including visual communication, human-centred design principles, and spatial interaction.

Key digital fabrication and manufacturing principles, including virtual modeling, additive manufacturing (3D printing), and prototyping.

Applied design research methods, usability testing, and quantitative data processing for user behavior analysis.

Foundations of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) frameworks, wireframing, and interactive digital product development.

Essential academic English communication, visual storytelling, portfolio development, and professional technical reporting.

Collaborative studio problem-solving, ethical design practices, and sustainable development frameworks.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this program, students will be able to apply creative design and user-centred principles to analyze physical and digital product systems, user workflows, and interactive scenarios. Participants will acquire the capabilities to interpret qualitative and quantitative user datasets, evaluate design literature critically, and express complex conceptual solutions clearly through visual portfolios and presentations. Furthermore, graduates will establish the critical spatial reasoning, academic language proficiency, and rigorous technical grounding needed to excel in degree-level studies in product and user experience design.
