Overview
Electrical and Electronic Engineering, taken within the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at The University of Western Australia, covers technologies at every scale, from tiny electronic devices to the systems that carry power over long distances. Students learn to solve problems in generating and moving electric power and information, and in designing and testing devices, circuits and systems. They also weigh the wider context of each application, including economic, environmental, social, ethical, safety and sustainability considerations. Students may also take part in hands-on initiatives such as the Renewable Energy Vehicle project and work in the Robotics Lab.
What You'll Learn
Mathematics, physics and computer analysis as the basis for engineering problem solving
Digital systems and digital system design
Electrical fundamentals, circuits and electronics
Electronic materials and devices
Signals and systems, and signal processing
Power and machines, and power system analysis
Embedded systems and control engineering
Communications systems, engineering electromagnetics and high frequency circuits
Process instrumentation and control
Design and research projects, project management and professional engineering practice
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to define, simplify and analyse engineering problems, then plan, design, build and operate solutions in electrical and electronic contexts. They will apply critical thinking and established engineering methods to devise innovative answers to complex issues, supported by the mathematical foundations of the discipline. Students will develop practical command of core concepts and extend it into specialised areas such as energy systems, microelectronics, renewable energy, power engineering and signal processing. They will be able to account for broader constraints such as sustainability, safety, ethics and manufacturability in their designs. Graduates will be prepared for roles in power, communications, embedded systems or systems engineering, and for research or consulting work.
