Overview

Enabling client independence, designing personalized rehabilitation programs, and applying evidence-based therapeutic interventions are central to modern occupational therapy and patient-centred healthcare. Associated with Adelaide University, this foundation pathway equips students with essential scientific knowledge, biological principles, and academic competencies. By integrating foundational human biology, psychosocial health concepts, and quantitative data analysis, the curriculum prepares learners to analyze human function systems and transition seamlessly into undergraduate honors studies in occupational therapy.

What You'll Learn

  • Core biological concepts, including human anatomy, physiology, neurological systems, and cellular functions.

  • Key physical and biomechanical principles relevant to human movement, functional capacity, and assistive technology.

  • Applied mathematics, statistical methods, and quantitative data processing for health and clinical research.

  • Foundations of clinical communication, patient care ethics, and professional occupational therapy practice standards.

  • Essential academic English communication, scientific literature synthesis, and formal technical writing.

  • Scientific research design, safety protocols, and evidence-based problem-solving in health and rehabilitation contexts.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this program, students will be able to apply biological and scientific principles to analyze human functional systems, anatomical structures, and clinical rehabilitation scenarios. Participants will acquire the capabilities to interpret quantitative health datasets, evaluate scientific literature critically, and express complex medical and therapy concepts clearly through written reports and presentations.
