Course Description

Overview

Diagnostic healthcare relies heavily on accurate scientific analysis to detect disease, monitor patient health, and guide therapeutic decisions. Associated with The University of Sydney, this preparatory foundation pathway delivers the fundamental scientific knowledge and academic skills required for modern diagnostic laboratory disciplines. By integrating biological concepts with chemical analysis and scientific methodologies, the program equips learners to investigate human disease mechanisms at cellular and molecular levels.

What You'll Learn

  • Key biological principles, including cell biology, molecular genetics, and micro-organism structures.

  • Core chemistry principles, including chemical reactions, solution concentrations, and biochemical bonding.

  • Fundamental mathematical techniques, statistical analysis, and laboratory data processing.

  • Essential academic English communication, scientific writing, and structured evidence evaluation.

  • Basic concepts of human physiology, organ systems, and diagnostic testing principles.

  • Experimental design, standard laboratory safety procedures, and collaborative scientific problem-solving.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this program, students will be able to apply core chemical and biological principles to interpret physiological data and diagnostic laboratory contexts. Participants will acquire the practical skills needed to conduct standard laboratory procedures safely, analyze biological datasets, and communicate scientific conclusions through technical reports and presentations. Furthermore, graduates will establish the critical quantitative reasoning, language proficiency, and foundational scientific grounding required for degree-level studies in medical laboratory science.
