Course Description

Overview

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Cyber Security and Networks) combines core computing knowledge with the study of networked systems and digital security. Students explore how computer systems communicate, how networks are designed and protected, and how security principles can be applied to identify and address technical vulnerabilities.

What You'll Learn

  • Fundamental principles of computer science and computational thinking

  • Programming, algorithms, and software development

  • Computer architecture, operating systems, and system administration

  • Network design, communication, and network technologies

  • Cybersecurity principles, threats, vulnerabilities, and risk

  • Network security, access control, and protective techniques

  • Data security, cryptography, and secure information handling

  • Security testing, monitoring, and incident analysis

  • Research, problem-solving, and critical evaluation of technical solutions

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to apply computer science principles to analyse computing and networking problems and develop appropriate technical solutions. They will understand how computer networks and systems operate and how security measures can be used to protect data, devices, and communications. Students will be able to identify common security risks and vulnerabilities, assess potential threats, and apply suitable approaches to improve system and network security. They will also develop programming, analytical, and investigative skills for examining technical issues and evaluating possible solutions. The course will strengthen their ability to work systematically with computing and network technologies, interpret technical information, assess security practices critically, and communicate findings and recommendations clearly.
